Things that are more Wonderful in your 20's

Today I entered my bathroom and to my excitement, saw that I was out of hand-soap. Yes! That meant that I got to crack open a new, lovely scent that I've been waiting to use! Champaign scented soap just seems like one of the nice details to complement an apartment. I can't remember ever being excited about soap before, but these sort of moment have been happening for a while now. Ever since my 21rst birthday, I've been fawning over fancy soap, cooing about nice appliances, and continuously adding home/apartment decorating tips and ideas to my Pinterest boards. I didn't expect this sort of behavior to occur until I was out of college or at least 25, yet, here I am. There just seems to be different things that I either appreciate more or see differently as I enter my 20's.

1. Socks

I remember hating socks when I was a kid. I was a barefoot wonder all year long. I still love walking outside barefoot, but I am no longer adverse to wearing socks; especially since they come in a variety of fun designs. I have ones with mermaids, foxes, unicorn-cats, narwhals, panda bears... So many socks. They're warm, nice, and they don't have to be boring.

2. Pants

Like socks, I also had a history of disliking pants. No. I didn't dislike pants. I truly DISPISED pants. Even in the middle of winter, teenaged-Alyssa could be seen wearing a miniskirt and fishnet stockings in the blowing, North-East snow. I'm still not crazy about pants, but I've learned to respect them. When it's cold outside, I am glad to wear pants and not a miniskirt. We've grown to respect each other, I might even say that I like them now.

3. Coffee

I've always been a coffee freak. I started drinking it when I was 12 and I was very picky and particular about my coffee: black, no cream, no sugar. My coffee habits have changed. I am now a coffee adventurer. I'll take it with cream, almond milk, different syrups, and I love trying new coffee drinks. I've also learned the art of enjoying my coffee. I drink less, take my time with it, and like a good quality roast. I went from coffee drinker to coffee lover.

4. Cooking

Ever since I moved off campus and got rid of my meal plan, I've been learning to enjoy cooking more. I've always liked the creative aspect of making food, but I'm figuring out all the neat things that comes with cooking. I have more control over my ingredients and I can make impressive creations for my friends. It is also just a nice additive to everyday life.

5. Friends and Family

It seems like the older I get, the more authentic my relationships get. I don't necessarily see or talk to everyone every day, but I have never felt more connected to my friends and family. I think that it's because as life gets busier and as everyone starts their own lives, we all get more control over who we want in our lives. If I want you in my life, I will find time for you; I will write you letters, call you, invite you over, or try to makes plans. People are no longer obligations. All my relationships are consensual and are more worthwhile. I have a better appreciation for the people in my life.
