A December Poem

This is a poem I wrote about a year ago for a group poem. I performed my portion with my poetry group at a holiday campus party. The entire poem, which was made up of individual parts written by each person, was about love during the winter/holiday season. This is an edited version to reflect the end of 2017.

Love is

The first snow-fall that brushes

The hardened ground

With stardust

From another universe.

It conjures the cold to inspire warmth.

It is

Hot coffee

With puffs of caffeine clouds

Rising in the

Crystalline air,

Floating words

Of falling snowflakes

Shared between friends,

Ribbons,

Holding hands,

Sharing dreams,

Lending out hearts to others who

And walk life's journey,

Understanding

That there are different paths

And different roads that lead

To love.

It is remembering

Yourself

And your own ancient roots

All while climbing up frozen bark

To extend yourself

Into the bare and feathered

Icicle branches.

Love is reaching out.

Love is sharing your warmth

With the rest of the world.
